First to Enroll into National Clinical Trial For Severe PVD
Baton Rouge,
LA - Vascular Specialty Center physicians on December 4th, 2006 enrolled
the nation’s first two patients into the PROOF
trial for critical limb ischemia. Sponsored by Foxhollow,
Inc., the PROOF (Plaque RemOval versus Open Bypass Surgery For
Critical Limb Ischemia) Trial is a randomized comparison of the
nonsurgical, endovascular athrectomy device (Silverhawk) vs. traditional
surgical bypass in treating those at risk for amputation due to
severe peripheral vascular disease. Performed by Dr. Albert
D. Sam II, study principle investigator, both procedures were technically
successful and the patients were both discharged to home within
24 hours.
“We are excited with this opportunity to participate in
the PROOF trial and to help determine the effectiveness of new
endovascular treatments in those with peripheral vascular disease”,
says Wendy Frieberger RN BSN CCRC, Vascular Specialty Center Director
of Clinical Research .
